Scientists from the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College, London, have discovered why some arthritis drugs such as Vioxx can cause strokes and heart attacks. Apparently, Cox-2 inhibitor painkillers stop an enzyme producing blood-thinning agents - which leads to a greater chance of blood clotting.
